Haymaker Block with a Walking Cane | Self Defense Technique | FightFast

When people thing of using a cane for self defense they usually think of using the cane for strikes. And they should. A cane is a devastating weapon extending your reach and multiplying your force. But if an attacker is close to you it takes away some of the advantage. In this lesson, Ray Ellingsen demonstrates a simple blocking technique used when an attacker is already up close and personal. This block will also inflict much more pain than blocking with just your arm.

Even better this blocking technique sets you up for a jab with the cane right down the attacker center line, a groin strike, or a powerful shove to the face with the cane. Remember hitting first in a self defense situation is always the best, but often times you will be taken by surprise, so knowing a few blocks and counter strikes is critical to your self defense training.
